Wisconsin Field of Nine is a blog dedicated to past and present baseball across Wisconsin. The emphasis is on amateur, semi-pro, minor, independent, and summer collegiate leagues, but blog posts may feature other games that includes a ball, bat, and glove. It is my opportunity to share.
Wisconsin’s baseball past has a rich history that is shared through posts titled “Turn Back the Clock” (TBtC), and sourced by memorabilia and historical research. Amateur and semi-pro baseball has been played in hundreds of communities since the early 1900s. And even though Wisconsin has only two minor league clubs today, numerous leagues and teams have dotted the state since the dawn of Wisconsin baseball. More recently, numerous teams have played summer collegiate and independent league baseball. I look forward to sharing stories with you.
Today, Wisconsinites have many opportunities to enjoy quality baseball. There are 18 leagues and 200+ teams that include many talented and passionate ballplayers. Fierce rivalries, interesting personalities, and a strong sense of community are ever present. Blog posts will convey game experiences through photography and narratives.
I am a bit tardy getting this blog started. Last season, many people asked whether I post my photos. “Rewind” posts will share photos and experiences from last year.
In the future, posts will include interviews of those who contribute to the game experience. What’s the umpire’s perspective? Or the old timer? Or the spouse? Or the person serving up the beer and brats?
Wisconsin Field of Nine is a blog to share my experiences. Your comments are welcomed. Please share your baseball experiences using the companion group on Facebook. A link is at the bottom of any page. Together, we can grow our statewide appreciation for baseball across Wisconsin.
