Sunday was a beautiful day for baseball, and Albion was a great place to be. The field’s unique features and low fences make it a great place for a guy with a camera lens. The only downside was the bright midday sun.
Belleville got the scoring started by plating a run in the top of the 2nd and added a pair of runs in the 4th to take a 3-0 lead. Albion inched closer with single runs in the 6th and 8th. But, the Raiders dimmed the Tigers hopes by doubling their lead with another run in the top of the nineth.
In the bottom of the nineth, Albion managed to get runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Infielder Skyler Gullickson worked the count before drilling a ball to deep left centerfield. Both baserunners would have easily scored but the ground rules played against the home team as the ball rolled under a truck parked deep in the outfield. The ground rule double resulted in a run and baserunners at 2nd and 3rd. Unfortunately for the home crowd, Albion was unable to find a way to push the runner at 3rd across the plate.
Photos show a lot of great action shots including Skyler’s double.
It was a great day for baseball.
