2026-05-17 Sussex @ Monches (LOL)

So, I decided to forego Footville and opt for games closer to home: Monches and Rubicon or Fort Atkinson. If I opted for Fort Atkinson, I could possibly make some of the Evansville game with the 3pm start. Off I went.

As I headed north on Hwy 83, the clouds let go and the sky grew increasingly dark. Change of plans – skip Monches and head west on I-94, then south to Fort on Hwy 26. The skies to the south were more promising. But, as I approached the Ixonia exit, I opted to take a chance and head back to Monches anyways. For the journey back, there wasn’t a drop of rain on the windshield.

I arrived 25 minutes after first pitch as they were finishing up the 2nd inning. The game continued a hurried pace. At 12:48, they’d completed 5 innings and the score was knotted at 1. Sussex scored their run on a pair of singles and a sac fly. Monches got their lone run in the fifth on a pair of singles, a walk, and a hit batsman. Thereafter, things slowed down.

Monches threatened to break the tie in the bottom of the 7th, but the inning ended after a single and a pair of walks. In the top of the 8th, Sussex plated one run on a single and three walks despite three strikeouts. In the 9th, Sussex added two more runs on a single, pair of walks, and an error.
