After a scoreless top of the first, the Mustangs scored a pair of runs on a two -run homer by Hudson Barsness. The lead would not last for long as the Bombers sent eight men to the plate in the top of the 2nd. After two outs, Black Earth loaded the bases on a single and pair of walks, and then Curt Barsness hit a bases clearing double. Another single followed but did not add to the inning’s run total.
The lead was short lived as Trevor Adams hit a solo homer in the bottom half of the frame, and the ‘stangs took the lead in the bottom of the third after a pair of walks and a double.
In the sixth each team scored a run, and that would end Mazo’s scoring for the night.
In the 7th, the Bombers added three more by sending 8 to the plate again. There were no extra base hits this go ’round. Instead, they scored three on three singles, a walk, and a HBP. In the 8th, Black earth made the most if three singles by scoring 2 more. And, 2 more runs were added in the 9th on 4 singles and a sac fly.
Final score: Black Earth 11 – Mazo – 5.
Fielding was a tad sloppy with 3 errors and 2 errors by Black Earth and Mazo, respectively. Each team’s battery of pitchers combined for 6 advancements to first through base on balls or hit by pitch.
Three of the Mustangs eight hits included a double and pair of hoemr runs.
Amazingly, Black earth hand one extra base hit in the form of a doulbe, but 19 singles. Yes, 19. Every player had at least one hit. Shane Moyer had 4 hits, Marc Caminitti had 3, and Clay Caminitti, Curt Barsness, Derek Adler, Ryan Klein, and Bryce Hopwood each had two. C. Caminitti, and C. Barsness had 3 RBIs apiece.
I am not from the area, but boy, it sure looks like the Caminittis and Barsness are genuine baseball families!
