It is disheartening when your opponent scores 8 runs in the first innning. That is exactly what the Columbus Crawdads faced as they squared away against Utica Association in a Wednesday Home Talent Night League matchup.
Columbus was able to score a run in the third when they sequenced a walk and single, followed by a double by Axell Allain. THroughout the remainder of the game, the Crawdads would manage five more baserunners on a single, pair of walks, and pair of fielding errors by Utica.
The first inning was all the Assciation needed as they scored 8 runs on 3 singles, 3 walks, and 3 miscues (dropped 3rd strike, HBP, error). Utica added two more runs in the bottom half of the third on a double, a single, and two fielder’s choices that advanced the walk arounf to score. In the fourth, Utica agains scored on another double, single and error.
All combined, the Association had three doubles (Bo Iverson, Drew Viney, Peyton Soule) and 5 singles. Catcher Declan Pohlman had a 2 of the 5 singles, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored.
Utica offers a nice place to watch a ballgame. Choose between sitting in bleachers behind home, or along the 1st base side in the evening sun, or along the 3rd base side under the shade of thee lined foul line.
I don’t often call out specific defensive plays, but Bo Iverson made an outstanding diving catch in right field in the 3rd. There are a pair of photos in the “Favorites”.
Final Score: Utica 11 – Columbus 1
