2026-06-13 DeForest at Cottage Grove (HTL)

For the second game of the day, I scooted from Dousman to make it just in time for the start of the game between DeForest and Cottage Grove.

Cottage Grove jumped out to an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first, and never looked back. The Firemen added a pair in the 2nd, another run in the 3rd, and two more in the 4th. Hits were plentiful, but the Deforest pitcher was able to fend off too much damage despite CG picking up 14 hits.

At the plate, the Deacons struggled. Over the 7 innings, Two Cottage Grove pitchers managed to scatter just four hits and keep them scoreless.

Final score: Cottage Grove 6 – DeForest 0

A scare came in the middle innings (4th, I think) when DeForest’s #25 (Zeke ???) swung a little early and fouled off a pitch right into his face. It happened very quickly and from what I can tell, it hit him directly in the nose and ricocheted into his forehead before bouncing out in front of him. I’ve had my share of bloody noses; nothing like this one. Eventually he managed to get to the bench and recover from this near disaster. The Deacons were shorthanded to begin with, which meant they played the remainder of the game with just two outfielders.

Foul ball . . . . .

. . . . . off the face. Ouch!!
