2026-06-25 Stoughton Merchants at Albion Tigers (HTL)

With a 6:00pm start and it is kind of along the way to Arena, I decided to stop in Albion for a couple innings of their game against Stoughton before heading off to see two other teams for the first time.

In this well pitched ballgame, Albion came out on top with a 3-1 victory despite having only 4 hits compared to Stoughton’s 7.

Albion’s starting pitcher Bryce LaSchum tossed 4 innings and gave up just 3 hits, but also walked 6 – three of which were in the first inning. But, well timed outs including a bases loaded strikeout kept the Merchants scoreless.

In the 2nd, the Stoughton got a runner into scoring position but could not get the timely hit they needed in order to push a run across. And, in the 3rd the merchants kept the pressure applied and got bases loaded again, but another timely strikeout ended the threat.

In the fifth, the Merchants got a run across after again loading the bases with no outs. A double play resulted in one run scoring and left two runners on base, but the new Albion pitcher, Sutton DeVoll got another timely strikeout, which was the first of five in three innings of work.

After a quiet 6ht, the Merchants again, you guessed it, loaded the bases. With one out, DeVoll induced an infield fly and closed the door with another strikeout.

The Merchants has three hits with two singles apiece: Connor Blaney (batting 3rd), Trevor Wallace (batting 5th), and Yan Venegas (batting 9th).

Meanwhile, Albion made the most of limited opportunities. In the 2nd, Beckett Johnson scored with two outs on a Collin Doerr double. In the 3rd, the Tigers scored another run after a dropped 3rd striker, a single, and a sac fly. In the 6th, a leadoff double by Logan Hanson scored after a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch.

The Merchant’s battery of Alex Bailey and Owen Lynch combined to give up the four hits and and one walk. It all came down to timeliness.
