Wow! Just wow!!
This was the game of the big inning, a big inning for each ballclub. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see exciting conclusion because of a personal scheduling conflict.
Rubicon got things started in the first when a walk and a home run to center by Logan Mantz gave the Sox a 2-0 lead. Rubicon added another run in the bottom of the second on a pair of singles and a pair of walks.
For the next few innings both pitchers settled in and held their opponents scoreless.
In the top of the fifth, Clyman scored six by cashing in on 3 singles, five walks, and an error. A timely (or untimely) double play smothered the Canner’s chances of further tipping the scales in Clyman’s favor.
I left the game after the sixth when the score remained 6-3. In the 7th and 8th, Clyman added single tallies to take an 8-3 lead entering the bottom of the 8th.
In the bottom of the 8th, Sox infielder Braden Montez led off with a triple. A walk and a pair of singles followed. The first single scored Montez. The next batter, Logan Mantz, tied the scored with a three-run homer to right.
But Rubicon wasn’t done. The next batter singled and the 8th batter of the inning was hit by a pitch. After a fly out, Rubicon retook the lead by scoring a run when Braden Montez doubled for his second at-bat of the inning. Braden O’Morrow followed with a single and two scored. A walk and fly out ended the inning. The damage: 13 batters, 8 runs, and 7 hits.
With eight in the books, Rubicon was in the driver seat with an 11-8 lead. But Clyman wasn’t ready to give up. A single, flyout, and three more singles tied the game at eleven.
In the bottom of the 9th, Rubicon took advantage of Clyman’s only error of the game. Logan Montez who’d homered twice already was intentionally walked. After a strikeout, the Sox loaded the bases Tyler Schettler singled on a sharp liner to right. On the next play, Joe Landgraf scored the winning run on an lex Montez ground ball single to left.
Final score: Rubicon 12 – Clyman 11.
Clyman played lots of small-ball by scoring 11 on 3 errors (five total), 7 walks, a HBP, and thirteen singles. The hit parade was led by Cam Schuett (4 hits), Jacob Hurtgen (3 hits), and Calvin Hurtgen (2 hits). Josh Oswald reached four times on a single and three base on balls. Calvin Hurtgen and Bryce Schuette each knocked in three.
Rubicon clubbed 17 hits, received 7 walks, a HBP, and an error enroute to scoring a dozen runs. Logan Mantz led the hitting with a single, two homers, six RBIs, and a pair of runs scored. Joe Landgraf had three singles and scored three times. KJ Banse, and Alex and Braden (double, triple) Montez each had a pair of hits. KJ and Braden each scored twice.
Lot’s an lots of photos to enjoy. The sun was bright and shadows were a challenge, but post-processing helped a bunch. There is plenty of game action to enjoy – even if it did only cover the first six innings.
