Most ballgames are played on Saturday and Sunday. The Home Talent League has a Night League that generally plays on Sundays. Besides pro baseball, the collegiate leagues generally play daily, so it was nice to have a Wednesday option to scoot over to Johnson Creek to see the Janesville Cheese Kings take on the Lake Mills Beach Bums.
For night games, I’ve learned I need to shoot the pitchers first to ensure I have the most light,. Thereafter, I look for batters and game play. The game started with nice daylight, but was quickly lost behind the clouds.
Of the three scheduled DCL games, this was of interest because it was a faceoff between the 1st (Lake Mills) and 2nd (Janesville) place teams.
Lake Mills got off to a quick start by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Janesville scored a run in the top of the 4th to make it a 2-1 game. The Beach Bums countered with three more runs in the bottom of the 5th. Each team plated a run in the bottom of the 8th and the Cheese Kings scored another run in the top of the 9th to finish scoring.
Finals score: Lake Mills 6 – Janesville 3
