All season long, I’ve enjoyed seeing different ballparks, especially those that have a grandstand. Months ago, I came across an early 1900s Dodgeville RPPC (Real-Photo Postcard) of a ballgame in progress. In the photo, it shows a grandstand that looks similar to the present-day grandstands in Dodgeville’s Centennial Park. So, I was looking forward to see a Dodgeville Knights game.
Sauk Prairie mustered more hits than Dodgeville, but that doesn’t always translate into runs. Such is the case for this ballgame. Dodgeville was outhit 7 to 5, but the Knights capitalized on a handful of walks and four Twins errors.
Sauk Prairie jumped out to an early lead by starting the game with a walk and a double to right by Mike Jordahl. Dodgeville tied things up in the bottom half with an error, a hit by pitch, a walk, and a steal of home.
In the bottom of the 3rd, the Knights loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a single. With one out, a wild pitch scored a run and advanced runners to 2nd and 3rd. A single brought in two more. After three innings, the score was 4-1.
In the bottom of the fifth Dodgeville added three more. The first run scored after an error, walk, and single. The bases were cleared when the two remaining baserunners scored on subsequent wild pitches.
In the top of the sixth, the Twins added their second run of the game on a bases loaded wild pitch (two walks and a single). And, that is how the scoring ended.
Final score: Dodgeville 7 – Sauk Prairie 2.
Leadoff batter Chucky Schara and Grant Sorg led the Twins hitters with two hits apiece. Bryce Crubough-Locked led the Knights with a pair of hits and two runs scored. Ty Palskill pitched a complete game and 9 strikeouts to lead Dodgeville to victory.
