2026-06-04 Lodi Royals at Ashton A’s (HTL)

The Lodi Royals jumped out to an early lead in the top of the third and never looked back in route to a 5-2 victory of the host Ashton A’s in a Thursday Night Home Talent League contest.

On the stats sheet, the two teams were a pretty good matchup, but the Royals came up with more timely offense than the A’s. The Royals offense consists of 7 singles, 8 walks, and a pair of miscues (error, HBP) while Ashton’s line was 7 walks, a similar pair of miscues, and 8 hits, three of which were doubles by Carson Gehrke.

This is the highest pitcher’s mound I’ve seen throughout southeast and south central Wisconsin. Every time I visit Ashton for a ballgame, I am reminded of Bob Gibson photos and his intimidating delivery when the mound height was 15″ until 1969.

In the top of the second, Ashton pitchers surrendered 5 of their 8 walks, and the first three accounted for the Royals’ three runs. The first run scored on a single, the second run scored on a based loaded walk, and the third run scored on a fielder’s choice.

In the third, Lodi added another run on a single, a walk, stolen base, and a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the first, Ashton was not able to cash in on the first of Gehrke’s doubles that was preceded by a free pass. But, in the bottom of the third, they were able to nibble when the Gehrke’s second double of the evening was preceded by a single and a walk. But, a pair a pop outs stopped any further damage.

Lodi added their last run in the top of the fourth on a single, balk, another single and an error on the same play.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth, the A’s added another run but missed an opportunity to bring any more baserunners around to score. With one out, Carson hit his third double. That was followed by two walks, a strikeout and another walk to bring in Gehrke. But with bases loaded, Lodi’s starting and winning pitcher, Ben Crary induced a ground out to end the inning.

Ashton had chances in the 6th and 7th innings, but Lodi relief pitcher, Art Rasmussen, got fielder support and added to his cause with timely strikeouts.

Final score: Lodi 5 – Ashton 2.
