2026-06-05 Helenville (LOL) at Lebanon (RRL)

It rained earlier and instead of venturing northeast to see my first Shoreland Baseball League game hosted by the Two Rivers Polar Bears, I opted to stay locally. Other games in the area were cancelled, but this one was still on. As you will see from a few of my aerial photos, heavy clouds were to north and west.

Sorry there aren’t going to be too many quality photos from this ballgame. The evening sun disappeared behind the clouds, and it is challenging enough when first pitch is at 7:30.

Nonetheless, it was a nice night for baseball.

I guess I should quality that last statement. It was a nice night for baseball for me. With the threat of rain looming, perhaps Helenville, in retrospect, may have hoped for a rainout or at least a downpour before the 5th inning.

Final score: Lebanon 25 – Helenville 1. Called after 5 1/2 innings.

A bright spot for Helenville was the pair of hits from third baseman, Ethan Salazar. The rest of the box score was not pretty.

From the other dugout, the opposite is true. Starting pitcher, Brooks Bolan, tossed three innings before giving way to three other Whitetail pitchers who tossed an inning apiece. They combined for just two walks, 10 K’s, 3 hits, and the one run.

Lebanon scored 25 on just 16 hits – mind you it is a lot of hits, but statistically speaking, you’d almost expect to read 16 runs on 25 hits. But, the Whitetails also took advantage of 15 walks and other misplays. The runs, hits, and RBIs were many and often and each player contributed to the offense in one way or another.

I’ll make two callouts: Shortstop Tyler Doyle had 2 singles and a triple, 3 RBIs, and 4 runs scored. Leadoff hitter Bryce Friend also had three hits, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Several other players had two hits and/or multiple runs or RBIs.
