The Kewaskum A’s / Appleton Legends game was the first of two planned for the day. I attended the second game of their doubleheader. I made the trip to Appleton, in particular, to see the Legends for the first time.
Appleton started the scoring in the bottom of the 1st on a HBP and a home run by centerfielder Chris Vandenheuvel. And, that would be enough to secure a victory as Legends pitcher Ethan Winkler tossed a 5 inning shutout and surrendered just three singles.
But Appleton’s scoring did not end there. After a scoreless 2nd, the Legends added 2 more in the 3rd and 6 in the 4th. In the third, a walk, a fielder’s choice (safe), and double by Bubba Thompson scored the first run. The double was followed by a flyball out to leftfield and the baserunner from second was thrown out trying to advance, but not before the runner at third scored. In the bottom of the fourth, Appleton added six more on a HBP, a pair of walks, a single, and error, and three more singles.
Appleton’s hitting notables included Peyton Just, who scored three runs and drove in two on his single, and Chris Vandenheuvel, who hit the game’s only homer, drove in tow, and scored twice. Bubba Thompson had a single, a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Final score: Appleton 10 – Kewaskum – 0 (5 innings)
