2026-08-02 Hartland Oilers at West Bend Spirits (LOL)

The game between Hartland and West Bend was part of a personal tripleheader. The goal was to see two teams I haven’t seen this year – West Bend and Oakfield – and then finish up with a late afternoon game between Neosho and Rubicon.

Today was a bit of a struggle for Hartland. The bats were quieted by Spirit pitching, and pitching surrendered a few too many hits in the 3rd, and a few too many walks in the 5th.

In the 3rd, the Spirit led off with a single and a double. An out later, three consecutive batters reached base on singles. Two runs scored.

In the 5th, Hartland’s pitching struggled. The first two Spirit batters reached base without a strike. The next batter worked a full count before walking, but not before a third wild pitch of the inning brought in a run. The next batter lined to short on a 3-0 count. The next batter worked a 3-1 count before popping out, but not before another wild pitch scored the 2nd run of the inning. After a pitching change a third run scored on another wild pitch. A strikeout ended the inning.

Thereafter, the Oilers pitching settled in and no more runs scored.

In the bottom of the 6th, Hartland took advantage of a leadoff double that came around to score on a sac fly and a groundout.

Final score; West Bend 5 – Hartland 1.
