2026-08-23 Evansville Jays vs. Columbus Crawdads at Marshall (HTL)

For this round of Home Talent League playoffs, Evansville squared off against Columbus at Fireman’s Park in Marshall.

Each ballclub started the game with a double. In the top of the first, Carson Syse clubbed a double to right with one out. A pair of strikeouts left Carson stranded at second.

In the bottom of the 1st, Trace Kirchberg led off with a double to right and advanced to third on a ground out. But he too was left stranded.

In the top of the 2nd, the Jays got two on with one out, but the Crawdads executed a double play to squelch any scoring.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Columbus manufactured a run on a walk, HBP, and a single.

A Niles Monroe double in the top of the 4th posed a threat, but with two outs a strikeout put an end to their at-bat.

In the bottom of the 5th, Columbus added another run on an Eric Turnquist homer to left. A Dan Sabin double followed, but did not lead to any more runs.

In the next inning, the Crawdads came back to load the bases with one out, but a pair of consecutive strikeouts ended the inning.

And, in the 7th, Columbus added two more runs on a single and Dan Sabin home run to left.

Final score: Columbus 4 – Evansville 0

From the mound, a pair of Evansville pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts over 8 innings. The pair of Crawdad homeruns accounted 3 of 4 runs.

Columbus pitcher Eamonn Mulhern got the complete game victory by striking out 11 while scattering 5 hits. At the dish, Turnquist led the hitting with three hits (single, double, home run), two RBIs, and 2 runs scored. Sabin had a pair of hits (single, home run), the other two RBIs, and a run scored. Mulhern also had a pair of singles.
