It is interesting that WordPress creates a “Hello World” post when the blog is created. In my profession, when an engineer learns a new programming language, it is common to create a first program that outputs “Hello World”.. Or in my discipline of embedded systems, the equivalent of “Hello World” is to flash an LED.
This blog is the result of two events in my life. First: A couple years ago, I acquired a 1939 South Superior Cubs program. I wanted to know more about the team so I began with a Google search, followed by correspondence with the Douglas County Historical Society and neighboring communities’ newspapers. Eventually I found all the information I needed through a newspapers.com subscription. The historical research proved to be very enjoyable.
I now actively collect Wisconsin baseball memorabilia. I am always looking to add printed schedules, programs, old RPPC (real-photo) postcards, photos, etc. to my collection.
Second: Around the same time, I stopped to finally watch a ballgame in Rome, WI. It was very enjoyable. There was a very strong sense of community, good food, and great competition. Land O’ Lakes playoff baseball a couple weeks later got me hooked on amateur baseball. Last year, I visited many different ballparks soaking up the experience and taking thousands of photos to share.
As a result, I want to share baseball’s past and present with you.
