Each Monday, I pull up the baseball schedules for numerous leagues throughout Wisconsin and lay out a personal schedules of games to attend for the week.
Since midweek, I’d set my sights on driving 3 hours to see a quadrupleheader in Marshfield as part of the WBA tournament. On Saturday morning, I needed to leave by 7:30 to make the first game. But, I wanted to stop for a treat at Bon-Ton Bakery in Jefferson, so I headed west on Hwy 18. As I made my way into Jefferson, I took note of the sign for “Baseball today” for the Home Talent League game later in the day.

After picking my donut, I hopped onto the freeway and headed west. I passed the Lake Mills exit. As I continued west, I thought more about that sign. I’d seen a similar sign for the Genesee game when driving home from work on Friday. I pondered why I was heading to Marshfield. Certainly, I was in store from some good baseball.

But, my mind took a step back. . . in time. I recalled why I started “Wisconsin Field of Nine”. In part, the goal was to share baseball through my photography. Another goal is to enjoy the experience each community has to offer. Watching Cadott, Tilden, or Osseo play in Marshfield would be a good ballgame, but I wouldn’t experience what each community has to offer.
So, I pulled off the interstate as I approached the Deerfield exit. I looked at my list of Saturday games and decided to see Hartford challenge Kewaskum – a town I’d never visited.
In an upcoming blog post, I’ll share photos from that game.
